X-Men Origins: Wolverine: A film based video game that will blow your geeky mind

By WOW Zon

Despite the new Marvel movie X-men Origins: Wolverine getting a bit of a lukewarm critical reception (not forgetting a whole lot of negativity on the part of the Marvel comics diehards), the new Wolverine video game seems like it could be the finest comic book hero movie tie-in in a rather long time. Even with the movie playing with established continuity plenty, the developers of the official X-men Origins: Wolverine movie video game have taken it upon themselves to get hold of the original source material and devise something excellent out of the chaotic mix of a film. They’ve done a great job, too. The end results are there for you all to enjoy for yourself in the new Wolverine video game on the PS3, Xbox and Nintendo Wii.

A Wolverine video game has never quite really been able to recreate those unique characteristics that countless comic and graphic novel enthusiasts have enjoyed for a very long time. However, the new X-men Origins: Wolverine video game does seem to get things right, which is none too shabby seeing as the film itself appears to have been a massive screw-up. This could be a very rare event indeed- a licensed game that is actually better than the movie it is based on.

The first thing you’ll probably notice is the awesome combat system the game offers. It does capture some of the gut-churning action that being the character of Wolverine would afford you. His healing factor adds another welcome element to the game too, and it is marvellous to see a mainstay of his comic book and film persona done so well by the Wolverine video game developers. Logan’s powers in this licensed Wolverine video game constantly regenerate as you get injured, but you’ll need to take cover and rejuvenate if your health reaches a dangerous level.

With ever more fearsome bad guys to battle throughout the game, it becomes an increasingly exciting experience the more you play. Boasting stunning graphics and audio, it does throw you into the thick of the action, and with so many X-Men comics characters appearing throughout this Wolverine video game, there is more than enough to keep Wolverine fans thrilled. Another nice feature of the game-play is the ability to focus on certain aspects of Wolverine’s superhuman senses by using your control pad, letting you spot targets, entrances and more that you may otherwise miss.

As an overall package, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game is a huge success, serving you all the thrills of the Wolverine film with added characteristics that the film lacks. With clear, beautiful visuals and thumping sound design, the game really gets you into the character and his berserker rage, and is a more than welcome addition to the roster of Marvel comics movies games. The new Wolverine video game is better than the movie, Bub.
