Once you know how, making money is not as hard as it first may seem. There are many ways
you can build your online wealth without spending hours of time. Some of these are grinding
the right mobs, flipping the auction house, questing, and professions. Some of these do
take some time, but they are more profitable if you know when and where to do them to be
most effective.
Grinding, sometimes also called farming, can be a very good way to make some money, especially as you get higher in levels and have more options on where to go. If you are just starting out and are grinding for money i suggest staying with humanoid monsters. They drop money, and also items you can make money from. When farming to get money, try not
to just grab every drop. Learn what sells and what doesn’t. this can be achieved at the auction house with just a little time researching what is posted and what is selling.
The Defias humans in Elwynn Forest are a reliable place to start. Trolls are great if you are a gnome. They will give money and items which can be sold.
Quests pay you money or give you items you can sell if you do not need them so they are
always a good way to make money. Also, once you hit level 10, dont just rush forward to the
next area. Now you can travel to other areas. At this point Try going to the other areas and grind out some of the low level quests. It shouldnt take much time since you are higher level than most of the mobs. If you are geared up for your level, you wont be spending much and selling everything you get. It also will help build your reputation which will become critical later in the game. It is a smart idea to go to the other areas while you still get experience and run their quests.
At around level 35 soloing Deadmines should be achievable. Deadmines is one of my favorite places for grinding gold. Get the largest bags available, then as you go drop any white or gray items that you get. I still wind up dropping some of the greens i get because I just do not have the room to cary them all. Check the auction house before you go to see what to drop and what to keep.

Taking time to learn to use the auction house can be rewarding in
the game. By watching what is selling and for how much you can flip items. Flipping is a way of getting items on the auction house then reselling them for a higher price. I usually set my buy price at least double what i payed for it. Also, make sure you take into account any auction house fees you paid, as these cut into your profits.
Professions can also be a great way to make money as you advance in the game. If you are interested in making money stick with the gathering professions. Skinning and Mining are both easy to level and profitable. when mining you should check your auction house to see if raw ores or smelted ores sell better. This is sometimes different by server. Ususally i find the raw ores sell better, as they are used by blacksmiths who just dont want to spend the time farming for materials, and by jewelcrafters for prospecting. However I have seen some servers where smelted ores generally sold better.
Herbalism can also be very profitable especially with the Inscriptioning introduced in WoTLK.
